TEXTILE ART, INTERACTIVE ART, MULTI-SENSORIAL, AR

Fabrics and clothing are often associated with beauty, comfort, protection and playfulness. But as a soft medium for personal and collective expression, textiles are also a powerful communication tool. YARNS.TXT explores the role of textiles in the context of rebellion as support to bypass physical and digital censorship undergone by governments all around the world.

 Pleated structures, fading dyes, traditional weaving, AR and electronics are combined to create an interactive experience where the visitors are welcome to discover the hidden messages through touch, view and sound.

In collaboration with smart textile artist Sofia Guridi, during Softislab artist residency, 2021, Helsinki.

This project consists of 5 individual experiment.

Woven jacquard textile and AR environment

The patterns on the textile can be read with a custom-made web app via phone camera, and reveal content traditionally banned by internet censorship.

Garment with nature dye pigment

Printed blocks covering text as a representation of media censorship. Nevertheless, water can unveil the hidden messages by dissolving the nature dye pigment.

Rib knitted scarf

The physical deformation of the knitted structure is used to hide printed messages in plain sight. The sentences are taken from manifestations and artists around the world.
